On Christmas Eve, Mia drew Santa, a reindeer and herself too. “I'll give it to Santa myself — that's what I'll do!”

Thump! Down on the balcony, out of the night, fell a tiny reindeer, all tangled in lights!

“I'm Ling Ling. I can't fly yet, so I fell from the sleigh! My bell leads Santa's reindeer — without me, they'll lose their way!”

Mia tucked her drawing away. “I'll take you back — hold on tight!” Ding-ding! rang her bell — and a tram came to fly them through the night!

Over the harbour, over Lion Rock, higher and higher they flew. Brrr! She found a coat, a scarf and boots on the seat — and they fit her too!

The tram set them down at a snowy village, all twinkly and bright. “The louder my bell rings, the closer Santa is tonight!”

Following the bell, they met three penguins, shivering and blue. Mia wrapped them in her scarf. “There! Now you'll be warm too!”

“Thanks!” cheered the penguins. “Ask the elves at the workshop — they'll know!” Ding-ding! The bell rang louder. “Nearly there!” said Ling Ling. “Let's go!”

Inside the toy workshop, the elves were wrapping, busy as bees. “Santa's waiting on the hilltop! Too many presents — help us, please!”

“I'll help!” said Mia. Fold, tape, a bow on top — one, two, three presents, wrapped without a stop!

Ling Ling tried to fly to the hilltop — thump! Into the presents she fell. “Never mind, let's try again!” said Mia. “You're doing well!”

Outside, a snowman stood by the door. “Which way to the hilltop?” Whoosh! The wind blew his hat off with a roar!

Mia put the hat back on and straightened his carrot nose. “Thank you!” said the snowman. “Up that way the hilltop goes!”

On the way to the hill, she tried again, and — thump! — into the snow. “Never mind, let's try again!” said Mia. “Up we go!”

At the top stood Santa's sleigh — but who would lead the team? “It's your turn, Ling Ling!” said Mia. “You can do it — it's your dream!”

Santa saw Ling Ling fly. “Ho ho! Ling Ling, you flew!” He hugged her tight and said, “I've been looking for you!”

Mia gave Santa her drawing. “This is you, and Ling Ling, and me!” Santa smiled. “It's the best present there could be!”

Santa's eyes were misty. “No one's ever given me a gift before! I'll hang it on my sleigh, to keep for evermore!”

“Hop on! I'm off to Hong Kong!” Ling Ling led the way, over Lion Rock and the harbour, taking Mia home on Santa's sleigh!
